April

April, der vierte Monat im Jahre, soll nach Varro seinen Namen von der Göttin Aphrodite herleiten, weil er dieser Göttin geweiht war, während Andere ihn von dem Schweizerworte »appern« (thauen) abstammen lassen. Die jetzt nochwenig gebräuchliche Sitte des Aprilschickens mag ihr Entstehen wohl in der Veränderlichkeit des Wetters während dieses Monats gefunden haben, welches durch seine schnellen Uebergänge so oft unsere Erwartungen täuscht. Außerdem gab man dem April die Namen: – Ostermonat, Thaumonat, Grasmonat, Blumenmonat und scherzweise wohl auch Frauenmonat.
