C4ISR

C4ISR ist ein militärisches Akronym für command and control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (deutsch: Führung und Steuerung, Kommunikation, Computer, Informationsbeschaffung, Überwachung und Aufklärung), das zuerst von den Streitkräften der Vereinigten Staaten verwendet wurde.
Der Begriff bezieht sich vor allem auf eine Vernetzung aller Führungs-, Informations- und Überwachungssysteme, um ein genaueres Lagebild zu erhalten und so die Entscheidungsfindung und Führungsfähigkeit der Streitkräfteführung zu verbessern.
C4ISR spielt im Zuge der forciert vorangetriebenen Transformation der US-Streitkräfte eine immer größere Rolle; man begegnet dem Begriff in zahlreichen Strategiepapieren und politischen Stellungnahmen – seit geraumer Zeit nicht nur bei den US-amerikanischen Streitkräften, sondern im Zuge der zunehmenden Elektronisierung der Armeen und der immer IT-lastigeren Gefechtsführung bei militärischen Organisationen weltweit.
Eine Weiterentwicklung der vernetzten Operationsführung bildet heute C4ISTAR und steht für C4I (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Information), dem sogenannten Führungsinformationssystem und ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, Reconnaissance), dem Aufklärungssystem.
